About this archive

PorschePrototype.com is an independent reference archive on Porsche prototypes, chassis records and the claims made about them. It is not affiliated with Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Porsche Cars North America, Porsche Classic or Volkswagen AG.

Why this domain?

From 2012 to around 2016 this domain hosted a website promoting a yellow Porsche as a lost “P 911T prototype”, offered on eBay Motors with a starting bid of $21 million. The claims attracted coverage from Carscoops, L’argus, Autoblog.gr and others. We rebuilt the domain as the opposite of that site: a place where every Porsche prototype claim is checked against the record. The case file explains what the original listing claimed and what the documents show.

How records are filed

Every page labels its statements in three classes:

  • Documented: supported by a factory record, a court ruling, a published registry or contemporary primary reporting.
  • Claimed: stated by a seller, owner, heir or secondary source without a document we could check.
  • Unknown: the record is silent or sources conflict. We say so rather than filling the gap.

Who writes it

Entries are researched and written by the PorschePrototype.com editors using specialist books, registries, Porsche’s own publications, court reporting and archived primary sources. Each page lists the sources it checked.

Corrections

If you hold a document that confirms or contradicts an entry, such as a Kardex copy, a Production Specification or period photographs, we want to see it. Corrections are dated on the page.
